MOTHERBUD
Motherbud is a black woman-led social enterprise startup enabling positive food futures with traditional knowledge. They build and network co-operative greenhouse farms for commercial mushroom production in Africa. The company upholds three pillars: women’s empowerment, food security and climate action. Steadfast in reinforcing connections between people and planet; wherein we honour our past and reimagine our future.
From Source to Impact : the concept of the visual identity is inspired by the idea that something so small as a spore can grow and develop into something much greater than itself and impact the world on a larger scale. Mothers, mushrooms and the African continent can be closely tied to the notions of origin, strength, richness and wealth, nourishment, growth and development.
The brief was for us to design a new brand identity for Mothered that is modern, African, and futuristic but also versatile enough to speak to various audiences such as local communities, relevant stakeholders and their customers.
The new Motherbud logomark is an evolution of the previous; representing a rebirth and the future of of the enterprise. The logomark comprises three intersecting organic contours that reference the appearance of a mushroom head. When stacked they capture the idea of impact and growth, creating a bold, abstract and distinct shape. The three contours symbolise Motherbud’s pillars: women empowerment, climate action and food security.
